Designed by Costas Kondylis, The Atelier is one of the most desirable and unique residential condominium buildings in Manhattan. Situated in the rapidly developing Hudson Yards area, The Atelier offers breathtaking views of the skyline and the Hudson River while also being conveniently located near all of Manhattan’s best entertainment, dining and shopping.
Slender, Modern and Uncomplicated
Featuring a 9-to-1 “slenderness” ratio, The Atelier was conceived by award-winning architect Costas Kondylis to provide residents with a unique residential experience that is both luxurious and sophisticated. Its design evokes the bow of a great ship, interpreted in glass with wrap-around balconies and expansive views.
Sleek and Strikingly Unique
Taking inspiration from the former garment district that lies just across the street, The Atelier was influenced by the Bauhaus textile patterns of Anni Albers in its overall approach to outdoor living spaces. Real estate developer Carmel Partners asked surface design to creatively control the building’s outdoor living space, a process that resulted in a dynamic and unified aesthetic for both the pool/amenity deck and the rooftop lounge.
At the heart of this design is a pronounced grid fenestration pattern, which is complemented by four different windows bands. This slender and minimalistic structure is designed to capture the dynamism of Manhattan’s bustling midtown skyline, while also thematically recalling oceanliners that once docked along the Hudson River in the 40s.
The Atelier’s sleek and svelte design is a welcome departure from the many towers that have been built in the Far West 42nd Street area over the years. A slanted roofline, with notched western ends that are thematically inspired by oceanliner bridge aesthetics, adds another distinctive element to the design of this slab-tower condo tower.
Conceived as a contemporary take on the classic Midtown high-rise, The Atelier was the first of the Far West 42nd Street towers to be constructed in the Hudson Yards complex and is destined to become a landmark for the entire neighborhood.
It is the flagship for The Moinian Group, a real estate company with over 14 million square feet of commercial and residential space in New York City. Its 478 units span 46 floors and are complemented by an array of amenities, including a state-of-the-art fitness center, a sky-lit indoor pool, a Sky Lounge with billiards room, catering kitchen and sundeck, full basketball and volleyball courts, a 100-car garage and 15,700 square feet of ground-floor retail.
With top-class amenities, a 24-hour concierge and valet service, and a convenient location in the heart of Manhattan’s bustling Hudson Yards area, The Atelier is a perfect choice for the discerning renter or buyer.
The Atelier has been the recipient of several accolades, including an Architectural Record Magazine Best in Class award and a Gold Medal for Design from the American Institute of Architects. The Atelier’s design embodies a modern, minimalistic approach that has been honed through decades of research and development.
